A fast metabolism is usually associated with people who are skinny and thin. People make a critical mistake when trying to lose fat. They think they need to eat less. While that is true, in order to speed up metabolism the number one thing you need to do is to eat less food, more often. Portion control is critical if you’re interested in how to speed up metabolism.

Everybody is aware that in order to lose weight, you need to eat properly. Duh.

Many people forget that people can under-eat! Diets that restrict calories an excessive amount make it harder to lose weight and to maintain that weight loss. What your body is really striving for and hungry for is minerals. The more minerals you get the less hungry you will be.

We increase the cortisol production when we eat less. Cortisol is often times the “stress hormone” that’s responsible for giving people large bellies. It’s possible to cut your calories and actually gain a belly. That’s kind of hard to believe but it’s true. Typically people who are malnourished have protruding bellies that look bloated.

The very best approach would be to eat a healthy, balance diet of protein and natural, unprocessed vegetables and fruits with plenty of fiber. Avoid processed foods as much as possible. This includes pasta, pizza and all white flour products.

You will discover if you take a quick glance at the labels of these ready-to-eat foods, that they contain chemicals that aren’t exactly good for your health. Anything out of a plastic bottle (like water bottles) and tin cans that contain aluminum are not going to help you. Another way to speed up metabolism is to avoid exposure to toxins and chemicals which ruin your thyroid gland that controls metabolic processes in the body.

Have you forgotten about cyclamate? It was initially approved by FDA as a sugar substitute for diet foods. Later studies in animals showed that cyclamates had been linked to cancer. It was banned right after. The FDA is a joke. We need to be our own health and nutrition gurus here or we’ll end up with cancer and heart diseases.


Here are some FDA approved food additives that you should avoid at all costs in my opinion:

* Acesulfame Potassium (Ace-K) -

You will find this artificial sweetener in baked goods, chewing gum and diet soda. Experiments have linked it to cancer in some trials.

* Artificial Colorings –

The food colorings Blue 2, Green 3, Orange B, Red 3, Yellow 5, and Yellow 6 are mostly found in candies, soft drinks and gelatinous desserts.

* Aspartame –

This is another synthetic sweetener known to be closely linked to people with cancer. Go with a natural herb called green leaf stevia for a healthy sweetener.

* Bytylated Hydroxyanisole (BHA) –

Utilized in cereals, chewing gum, potato chips and vegetable oils as a preservative. US Dept. of Health and Human Services considers BHA as a human carcinogen, but the FDA still permits its use. Go freakin figure.

* Hydrogenated Vegetable Oils –

These unwanted transfats are in different foods such as deep fried foods, margarine and even crackers. You’ll also find them in microwave popcorn and other baked goods. Trans fats are closely linked to people having heart illnesses throughout life which turns into heart attacks.

* Olestra –

Another fat that’s not utilized by our body as it goes through our digestive tract. It might trigger severe side effects like diarrhea.

* Potassium Bromate –

You will find these bromates, the cancer causing agents, in breads and rolls. It’s illegal to some countries, except for Japan and USA. Thank you FDA for your wonderful work on our behalf.

* Propyl Gallate –

This is a preservative commonly being used in processed meat items, chewing gums, potato sticks and even chicken soup base. Some studies have suggested that cancer may be a result of these.

* Sodium Nitrate/Sodium Nitrite –

Another preservative used as a coloring and flavoring agent in processed meats such as bacon, ham, hot dogs, and luncheon meats. This is another contributor to cancer.

* Saccharin –

This sweetener has been debated for years. It should be avoided, even though it was removed from the list of cancer causing agents during year 2000.

Like Jack Lalanne said, “If man made it, I don’t eat it!” Big ups Jack. I agree for the most part. There are man made (or I should say man prepared) foods that I do eat like some raw foods and things like that.

Let’s get back to the point of this article which is how to speed up metabolism. Let me reiterate the big secret to fat loss: Don’t undereat! Try to steer clear from eating ready to eat foods on grocery aisles and stick to healthy fresh foods. Eat whole, fresh and raw foods as much as possible. When you’re in the grocery store, stay near the outer edges of the store for the most healthy food choices. Remember if you want to increase your metabolic processes in the body you have to eat often, but not junk food. Don’t eat junk food often eat the right foods often and your metabolism will increase and speed up naturally.

In order to lose weight, you need to have a diet containing proteins, vegetables, fruits, nuts and seeds. Plus, you need to exercise regularly and sleep adequately. Drink less alcohol and coffee. Speeding up metabolism requires lifestyle changes not just changes in how you eat or what you drink.

Always eat meats and vegetables and try to steer clear from white flour breads, pastas and desserts. Create a diet log, listing down everything you eat and drink. It will make you more conscious of what you’re eating. It might shock you actually to see the amount of crap you put into your body.
