5 Good Ab Workouts For Men
Jun 12th, 2011 | By Todd Bowman | Category: Abs & Stomach
The abs, or Rectus Abdominus muscles, are the groups of muscles that begin at the base of your ribcage and go down to your pelvic bone.
By working these muscles you can tone your abs. There are many workouts for your abs, but in my opinion the workouts below are the best ab workouts for men. Seriously, give them a try.
Men tend to use their abdominal muscles more than the ladies as we’re typically doing more manual labor and moving our bodies more than women. Obviously these are general statements but I know you know what I mean.
Whether your a man or a women, if you’re athletic, you’ll want a strong core. Your trunk which stabilizes your base (legs) helps with quick reaction time and overall agility, speed and quickness in your sport of choice.
There’s also growing evidence that having belly fat directly correlates with certain diseases like cancer, diabetes and heart attacks. Not only that but it greatly increases your risk factors for such conditions as well.
It behooves you to at the very least try to lose some weight in your stomach if not get a strong stomach. If you really want to hit the ball out of the park, you could get that shredded six pack you used to use to make the ladies swoon back in high school.
In your workout routine pick at least 2 days devoted to abs, and at least 2 days of the week for cardio exercise.
This will help to burn calories and fat and regulate your metabolism which is controlled by your thyroid gland and hormones in your body.
Cardio is important because it is the best workout for burning fat quickly and can decrease the amount of visceral belly fat that is covering your abs. Don’t have your 2 days of ab workouts together so that your abs have plenty of time to recover. If you’re not sore the day after you workout in the gym, you simply didn’t train hard enough or smart enough with proper form. I would guess both.
Building up your muscles can fatigue your muscles, so you need to space them apart so that you don’t overwhelm or injure your midsection. If you want you can have 3 days for abs instead of 2 days a week. I like to workout my abs on Tuesdays and Fridays.
The best ab workout for men includes a variety of exercises. Try to incorporate different exercises such as the Russian Twist, Reverse Crunches, Ball Oblique Crunches, Windshield Wipers, and the Jack – knife to get the best ab workout.
Let’s go over them here.
Russian Twist
To do the Russian Twist lie on your back on a bench that is declined. Raise your legs so they are perpendicular to your torso. Keeping your back on the board, move your legs in a circular motion from the left to the right. There is no rest position, so do this for at least 60 seconds at a time. Do 3 sets of this exercise and your core will be sore and achy the next day.
Reverse Crunches
Lie on a bench with your hips off of the bench. Raise your legs up, bend at the knee, and raise them above your head only lifting the lower part of your back off the bench. Hold for a short moment and lower your legs, but don’t let your feet touch the floor. If you are able pull your legs all the way to your chest. Repeat this at least 10 times for 3 sets.
Trust me good ab workouts for men. If you’re looking to take your ab routine to a another whole level, then check this out.
