Are You Eating The Right Types Of Carbohydrates?
May 22nd, 2011 | By Todd Bowman | Category: Diet And Nutrition, Lose Weight
There are many types of carbohydrates. You might be hearing a lot of “carbs are bad” for you. However, I want to clear up that misconception. It’s something that many nutritionists fall into. Our bodies are meant to eat small amounts of starchy sugary foods (fresh and coming from plant sources of course).
The truth is, we all need carbohydrates. Our bodies need carbohydrates in order to function correctly. Your brain, your spine, your whole body will not function well without carbohydrates.
Your nervous system needs some sugars to function. The problem is that 90% of our diet is carbohydrates in the form of wheat, white bread, refined flour products, cookies, cakes, crackers, chips, soda (which contains mercury in the genitically modifed corn GMO) and the like.
As a culture we’re eating way too many carbs and not the right carbs. This is why we have all the diseases today like cancer, heart attacks, strokes, candida, rashes, yeast infections and so on.
Carbohydrates are converted by your body with the pancreas into glucose which is needed in your blood. This then is stored in your liver and your muscles.
The problem now is not that we are eating carbohydrates. Rather, it’s because we’re eating a lot of it. The overabundance of carbohydrates are usually taken in the form of processed foods and other baked goods.

The trick is to eat enough carbohydrates for our bodies to function well, but not more than necessary. So how do you find that right balance? Do you have to by a blood glucose meter and test your sugar levels to see if you’re insulin resistant? No. You need to do what feels right. You can usually know when your sugar levels are dropping.
You’ll get light headed, really hungry, perhaps foggy brain or that spacey feeling.
When you think of carbohydrates, you might think of pasta, potatoes, and starchy foods. However, there are also other carbohydrates, the ones that are good for you. Other sources of carbohydrates are fruits and vegetables. These carbohydrates are exactly what your body needs to function properly.
Nobody ever had a pasta deficiency.
Starchy foods are advised to be consumed right after undergoing heavy activities. Your body needs to replenish it’s depleted energy.
To give you an idea of what a day of enough carbohydrates is, here’s a good example of a daily menu plan with reasonable amount of carbohydrates.
Breakfast meal
Eat eggs along with a bowl of berries.
Morning Snack
Eat an apple or nuts.
Afternoon lunch
Eat chicken salad with raw or cooked vegetables and an optional orange.
Afternoon snack
Nibble on carrots or some celery with almond butter or organic raw peanut butter.
Dinner
Salad with meat (poultry or beef)
With this type of menu, you can have the good types of carbohydrates and still lose weight, all the while feeling energized and great.
Trust me. Go on this type of diet for 30 days and you’ll feel amazing. Humans were never meant to eat grains. This is why we lose our height and stature as we age. It’s because of the mineral transfer of processed grains depleting the body of minerals in our bones. There are some great books on this subject but suffice it to day, stop eating so many processed and refined grains that are bad carbohydrates and harm your health.
