If you want to lose weight and change your body, then read on.
You’re probably wondering why the title says so. Weight loss shouldn’t be the primary goal of your training program. Simply losing weight without thinking what type of weight you’re losing may be unhealthy.
Did you know that not all fat is created equal? There’s visceral fat (lipids surrounding organs) and subcutaneous fat which are lipid cells that consist of all the rest of the fat on the human body. About 80% to be exact. They even call this the bad fat or brown fat.
If you’re here reading this article, most likely you’re here because you want to improve your appearance, enhance your health and quality of living and boosting your mood and energy levels, not to mention have a healthier thyroid gland and metabolism.
You should understand that the simple fact of losing weight is not going to help you achieve those goals. You should be concerned with improving your body composition. This is called body mass index or BMI.
Your body is made up of different kinds of weight and they all contribute differently to your overall health and appearance. There are heavy individuals who have lean and excellent bodies and there are also thin individuals who are so out of shape.
Not only that but there are many people in the gym who qualify as the “unhealthy, fit people.” These are people who look fit in the outside (they’re typically young so they can get away with many abuses to the human body) yet inside their a trash heap. If you did cellular microscopy and looked at the state of their red blood cells they’re sick individuals.
You’re body is composed of muscle tissues, bones, water, glycogen and they all contribute differently to the way you look and feel. So haphazardly “trying to lose weight” can be misguided because it doesn’t into account the specific weight you’re trying to lose.
Lots of people want to lose water weight. Sometimes they’re bloated for some unknown reason. It could be candida or yeast infections.
If you’re goal is to have a lean, healthy and attractive body, then you should be more concerned about getting rid of as much bad body weight as you can while holding on to as much good body weight as you can.
Remember trying to be too thin and scrawny is not optimal. We need body fat. If you focused on losing just some of the fat and building lean muscle mass, your frame would look much more proportioned and have a sexier look. Plus guys don’t like women who look like 12 year old boys.
Simply put, your goal should be to burn off body fat while maintaining lean muscle mass.
If you want to lose weight, keep it off and stay healthy in the long run, this is the only way to get into the impressive shape that you want.
In this video, Sean Nalewanyj (best selling author of Muscle Gain Truth) shares three reasons why you should focus on burning body fat while keeping lean muscle:
First -
The amount of lean muscle tissue you have determines your metabolic rate. Muscle is metabolically active tissue and the more muscles you have, the more calories you burn.
Imagine burning calories while sitting on the couch watching T.V. and eating bon bons. Well it’s possible if you have more muscle. I don’t advocate that kind of eating habits and you won’t burn many calories while eating junk food and deserts like that but you’ll burn more than if you had less muscle mass.
This is why men can lose weight much easier than women. They have more muscle tone on their skeletal frame.
Second –
Maintaining a reasonable muscular development is one of the key ways to help you achieve that lean athletic sculpted physique that most of you are probably trying to get. Not only that but building more muscle mass will help you in just about all your athletic and sporting endeavors.
Third -
Those who frequently undergo crash diets, attempting to lose huge amounts of weight over a short period of time are inevitably doomed to fail. This method puts your body into a starvation state where the body’s metabolism slows down in an effort to conserve energy. It also causes you to lose a lot of lean muscle tissue. Don’t go on yo yo diets that screw up your blood sugar balances. This is a recipe for diabetes or hypoglycemia.
Screwing up your blood sugar levels adversely affects your hormone levels. Your hormones are the master switches that tell minerals where to go and what to do in order for each organ in the body to function properly. Don’t mess with the hormones man!
Now, stop obsessing about the numbers on the scale because it really means little to your overall health and appearance.
Again, focus on improving your body composition, that’s the only realistic method if you want to lose weight. Build muscle first then worry about cutting pounds of fat after that. You’ll have two things working for you. It’ll be easier to do each exercise and your body (because the hormones will be working better controlling your thyroid and thus metabolism) will naturally burn more calories and fat when you’re resting..or sitting on the couch eating bon bons.
