Losing Weight: One Of The Benefits Of Protein
May 10th, 2011 | By Todd Bowman | Category: Diet And Nutrition, Lose Weight
Most often, when people set out to lose weight, they often think of what they should avoid eating. You shouldn’t eat sugars that your body can’t digest like any disaccharides or polysaccharides, you should consume monosaccharides like raw honey.
Stevia is my sweetener of choice as it’s not really a sweetener it’s an herb.
Trainers say to avoid or reduce intake of saturated fat, etc. Our bodies need saturated fat to create hormones and cholesterol. In fact, most of us think of what we shouldn’t be eating when we should also be concerned with what we SHOULD be eating. What we should and shouldn’t be eating should go hand in hand.
When talking about losing weight, we should definitely also think about consuming high quality protein that we can digest, assimilate and absorb into our bloodstreams. Proteins are not created equal. Proteins are simply the biological transmutation output from amino acids.

In this video, Sean Nalewanyj explains the importance of protein when it comes to burning fat and changing your body composition and metabolism. Protein basically forms the building blocks of your entire body and it’s found in every single cell in your body.
High quality protein is essential if you want to rebuild tissues and build up your body. Not only that but your organs like your heart, liver, brain, lungs, pancreas and gall bladder need protein to function as well.
Protein plays a major role in your body’s daily functions that you should consume high quality protein in every meal you take.
Here are the reasons why protein will help you burn fat and improve your body composition:
First, protein produces a thermogenic effect on the body. Any substance that has a thermogenic effect is one that causes your internal body temperature to heat up. When your core body temperature increases by 1 to 2 degrees, your body burns more calories as heat energy. Proteins are much more difficult to digest compared to carbohydrates and fats. As a result, your body burns more calories by simply digesting protein.
For this reason, you have to get protein in its raw unheated or uncooked form in order for it to be better digested into your body.
Secondly, protein keeps you feeling full throughout the day. This prevents you from overeating and helps keep your cravings under control. Protein doesn’t give you that satiated feeling as much as fat does but combined they’ll keep you feeling like a million bucks all day long.
By the way, do you ever noticed that in nature protein is always combined with fat? In eggs you’ll see the egg yolk with the egg whites, in meat the visceral fat is inside the muscle and in plants you’ll notice nuts and beans have both fat and protein. Why are we discarding egg whites then?
Lastly, protein builds and maintains lean muscle tissue. One of the factors that determine how fast your metabolism is, is the amount of muscle tissue you have. By maintaining or building more muscle tissue, you get to burn energy faster and more efficiently. The end result is that your body is going to burn fat more efficiently and because you have a reasonable amount of muscular development around your bones and skeletal structure, it’s going to help you get that lean defined sculpted athletic look that you’re most probably trying to gain.
Another really important factor to include with protein is MSM (methylsulfonylmethane).
As you can see, eating high quality protein is an important factor in the fat burning nutrition puzzle.
For your protein needs, here are good sources of high quality protein sources:
- chicken breasts (don’t forget to eat the fat which is essential for your health)
- turkey breasts
- seafood (like salmon and fish)
- egg whites (don’t forget the yolk which contains healthy fats and healthy cholesterol)
- red meat (don’t forget to eat the fat which is essential for your health)
- cottage cheese
- raw nuts and seeds
- goji berries
- spirulina powder
- one world whey powder
- sun warrior protein powder
To see the benefits of protein, you should be consuming at least one of these sources of protein with every single meal of the day.
