Pool Workouts – Making It Easier For Newbies

Pools are not what people normally go to to have workouts. However, if you have no access to a gym, or you’re out on vacation, having pool workouts can be an alternative for you.
Lots of elite athletes these days like surfer Laird Hamilton have made popular running with rocks while submerged under water. It helps to increase endurance, and strength along with being a great way to increase your fitness levels.
If you have a pool, you can find the equivalent of a large heavy rock or stone and dive down under the surface of the water to the deep end and try to run with it as far as you can and as long as you can. Gradually this will help get you in better shape.
The top surfers in the world do it for endurance and strength for their chosen sports.
There are two major advantages as to why it is advisable to have some workouts in the pool.
First, the buoyancy offered by the pool makes it easier for beginners to start of their workout routines. Doing bodyweight exercises such as squats, dips and pull ups is a lot easier because the water helps push you up. Even doing one-legged squats is a whole lot easier.
It’s great on the joints or for arthritic people with rheumatism because the pressure is alleviated due to the buoyancy factor. There’s an element of being weightless that allows for an increased range of motion on the joints and muscles in the body.
For experienced people, they can start doing harder exercises using the same benefit of buoyancy.
Simple swimming by itself might be one of the most beneficial exercises known to man. My contention is that anything low impact and uses natural physiological full body movements are most ideal for humans to engage in. Swimming, rebounding, yoga, walking and some weight lifting seems to be the most natural forms of activities and exercises to participate in.
Secondly, water resistance adds more value to certain exercises which can certainly add more to your workout. Take for example running or doing squat jumps on the pool. Doing them in the water is very exhausting. However, it’s minimizes the impact on your joints because of the soft landings. That way, you protect your joints and get more workout.
The other great thing about doing body exercises in the pool is that it creates more resistance over your entire range of motion during each movement. This helps to create strength over a larger area of muscle mass.
Pools may not be your first choice when working out. Let’s face it. Pools are there for fun. However, no one ever said you can’t have fun and work at the same time.
That’s the best advantage when doing pool workouts. You get to workout while having fun.
If you have a pool be wary of the chlorine that’s typically in most commercial pools. Chlorine is a chemical that can be harmful to your health. Obviously this article is not about the health dangers of chlorine but just make sure to minimize your exposure to this substance.
